My son was newly diagnosed with Aperger's. What therapies would be beneficial for him? He is verbal. He has sensory issues along with aggression issues. Total dx include ADHD, Asperger's, Conduct disorder, HFA....so lost at the moment.
Social skills training, OT for the sensory, ABA, family counseling if your insurance will cover that. I would also recommend doing a 6 month trial of the gluten- and casein-free diet to see if that helps.
ABA therapy would be useful to control the aggression, and maybe some OT, that is where I would start.
I would definitely do OT, having ways to cope with sensory issues can help with so many different issues (attention, anxiety, social skills, etc). A "good" OT can make a big difference. Also we have a therapist that does floor time therapy now, but he has social groups for older boys and sees adults on the spectrum as well. We have been seeing him for three years and I am hoping he will be a constant in my sons life as he grows.
You are so not alone.. Mine is Aspergers, ADHD, ODD, and EI.....My son also has fine motor skill issues... he receives OT, Social therapy, and family counseling. We've had to do most of our research for ourselves and it's been a tough journey so far, but he has made progress... so just remember to breathe and take things one day at a time
OT and a behavior person that gears the program to the child social groups and a good therapist
