We just moved from California and are having a hard time with the schools here. Any suggestions of the best elementary schools here to work with more severe children?

San Diego seems to have more awareness of Autism spectrum classes and assistance. In Irvine a middle school actually just started with a full class of Autistic kids it's great. My son has Aspergers, and there are many children who have Aspergers there as well but are not in special classes. It's helps the NT kids learn about others and gives our Autistic kids a chance to mingle and learn from NT kids. Good luck on the search :)

We're looking into Temecula School district. They are pro inclusion and have more ASD classroom type options than here in Los Angeles. Do you know about this district? Anyone who resides there? My son is currently in 4th grade regular classroom via Inclusion with a 1:1 behaviorist, OT, Speech, Inclusion Facilitator that ensures he's included in the class both socially and academically.

Heh..we just moved from Spokane to San Diego last year! My son had barely started preschool when we left and went to Regal Elementary. The staff was very nice, but I was not pleased with his placement as the group was not a good fit for him. I knew it was only for about 2 months, so not a big deal. Our speech therapist in the area did highly recommend Browne Elementary. We did not have an official diagnosis of autism at that time, but it was suspected due to my son's speech delay. Downtown Spokane has a wonderful children's museum (Mobius)...just make sure to avoid weekends when the noise can get out of control! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help.
