I would say NJ the Calais school in Whippany is a behavior school that caiters to kids on the spectrum

He has and is currently receiving ABA therapy at home, although not 40 hours since he's in school. School does not offer ABA services not seem to offer positive behavioral supports. How long have you been using the Son-Rise program and was your son severely aggressive?

I really don't think you will find any options outside of a full time ABA dayschool or an institutionalization option. Public schools are ill equipped, especially in IL. Yesterday a child was criminalized and arrested in a Quincy IL school!! I run a home based Son-Rise program and I took my son out of school before anything could get totally out of hand like this. I was having them record daily what they did to him and I know how to perform ABA therapy so I asked them if for every negative behavioral interaction if they gave him the opportunity for 5 positive reinforcements for good behavior. Their response? "He didn't do anything to earn a positive reinforcer." Unbelievable. These teachers turn negative, refuse to follow clear instructions from the parents, are refused access to a one to one aide and then they criminalize the parents and the child! Son-Rise changed everything for us and our son does not require medication. It is worth looking into. They will send you a free packet of information if you request it at their website: www.autismtreatmentcenter.org. You can try the approach and see if it works before committing to anything. But, definitely get the free information and talk to one of their counselors. There is far more hope for these kids than JAIL,ABA dayschool away from their family or institutionalization. Aggression can be minimized and eventually stopped altogether. When you look at the Autism Treatment Center you will note that often the children shown are on the more severe end of the spectrum but the ideas and principles are also often applied to those on the mild end as well so definitely you'll want to speak with one of their counselors about how you would customize the program for your specific child.
