My 7y/o Has Just Been Diagnosed With PDD, It Was Suggested We Apply For SSDI. How Do We Go About That?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Our son has in school services. But it was recommended that he has in home services. We know that there is cost to the in home services & insurance usually does not cover. Would SSDI be the right avenue to go & do we need an attorney to get that? We are still in the process of getting him into counseling through the county mental health department. But we really do not know how to proceed with this. Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes ssi? It covers everything and you will get a check every month to help support your child and free diapers. It goes based on your income then when the child turns 18 it goes based on there income only. It will give you medicad for health insurance no copays all services free. Thats why we have ssi to help familys in need. I can not work with my sons crazy schedule.

Have you ever heard of the katie becket program if you do not qualify for ssi . You can apply for that they will help no matter how much your income . My sons therapy is 40 thousand a year. Who could ever afford that!!! SSI covers it.

I did it by myself.

Go to the Social Security office in your area to get the form. The agent there can guide you, I did not use a lawyer at all. You may need the doctor to write a letter explaining diagnosis. The money can certainly help with services and paying for medication.
