Suggestions For Noise-cancelling Headphones?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 8 year old with PDD-NOS has put "noise-cancelling headphones" at the top of his Christmas wish-list. He is VERY sensitive to noises. Any suggestions on which are the best but not outrageously expensive? His teacher is looking for some as well for him to have at school.

I just picked up a pair of the basic noise reduction headphones they carry at Home Depot. They don't block out all sound but they keep the volume of things at a manageable level. They were less than $20 and they work great!

both my husband and my son are extremely noise sensitive and we tried several before they both decided that going a little more expensive was the only thing that would work for them and we ended up with a Bose pair for them that instantly settles them down when overstemmed they were about 300 at Best Buy.

My son (8yrs old) uses noise reducing headphones at school, and we use a basic pair of noise reducing 'safety' headphones (like the ones fm Home Depot) at home. We sometimes use a pair of basic wireless headphones that go with our car dvd player as well. Each pair blocks out enough noise to help with his sensitivity and help him concentrate. We have even used these to attend fireworks displays and they worked fine for him. I prefer to not use 100% sound cancelling head phones because I do want him to be able to hear some outside sound, hear if we call him, and eventually be able to tolerate more noise.

My kids do not want to put ear bud inside their ears, so we use the headphones. We ordered them online, they are 3M brand PELTOR is the style. We got one pink pair and blue pair. Of course my daughter wants the blue ones and refuses the pink ones, but she will wear them. She wears them when shes doing homework, and we have sent them to school a few times to help with study time. they are adjustable and block out most of the sound. ( not 100%)

yes, probably like the previous mom said.. there are those earphones that kids wear to 'NASCAR races, and other loud events?' Those are great.. or try those little foam earplugs? they may block out some noise.
