Has anyone had these done? How do they work? I am having them done for my daughter today and would love to know what to expect. :) thank you so much.

CARS will be a behavior rating scale to address key areas affected by autism that is completed with observations and interviews. GARS is similar and focuses on key areas of autism symptoms and again takes in observations, rating scales and parent interview. THe parent interview has 25 yes no questions. There will probably be a lot of overlap but it is always necessary to use multiple assessments to gain an accurate course of action for educational planning and diagnostic criteria

I would TOTALLY get another opinion as she did NOT do any standardized or authentic ASD assessments. If that is all she did then you were robbed! You MUST get a second opinion! There are plenty of other assessments to conduct in order to decipher what social communication the student has and a SINGLE measure CANNOT diagnose ASD!!!! It is unethical! You have EVRY right to be UPSET!

Thank you! I went to the appointment and she started off with a 6 year old book opened it and said read this (social and communication) I said ok. She then had the gall to say. I told you she is not on the spectrum! I was so shocked by that all I could say was "excuse me but that book is old and is based against stereotypical autistic boys" "the characteristics of a girl with Aspergers is completely different. She ended that with I still told you I'm 100 percent sure. And ended appt with saying she has R.A.D, anxiety and OCD and prescribed her Zoloft. I'm so upset.
