I have found so much help on here. I have called a few places to get an official diagnosis for my 6 year old daughter and everyone i call isnt calling me back. Her doctor that said she was going to assess her wasted the appt talking to me and never assessed her. I emailed her but she feels she has the diagnosis but wont officially diagnos her. I have called the school to see if the psych there would do it, i called another place and they have a 8 month waiting list. We only have a few… read more

That's ridiculous. Disciplining them more makes it worse. What a joke :( I am on two wait lists and one is the local children's hosp developmental behavioral pediatrician dept. 8 months to a year. Seriously? That's a long time lol
Thank you ladies. Right now she gets OT privately once a week and does gymnastics 2x a week. She also goes to her therapist who is awesome and she loves her. I have a prescription from her doctor for an ipad and this app but not sure what to do with it lol. Left a message for her worker at ins.
Sorry for the delay, I got busy at work. Yes a Neurologist can diagnose it, if you think about it autism is a leaning and brian disorder so they are perfect for it. I will tell you that most of the time they pick up on it before you even tell them everything just from seeing your child.
You will go in and they will ask you for some history, and then they will take a look at your child and will take it from there.
I had the feeling Sean was on the spectrum once he hit age 3....but it took us until he was almost 7 to get him officially diagnosed. If you have the school's backing - a letter or something - it might help you move up on the wait list. I think for Sean once we got into Children's it was about 18 months total... because once we finished with one department we had to go on a new waitlist for the next one!
Maybe because the child was so young that they put a rush on it....
In the meantime... if your insurance allows it or if you can find something that would help her... start doing stuff now. We got Sean into music therapy (actually using instruments and other things to help with noise and transitions and was completely NOT covered by insurance) and had him join a Special Olympics team (to help with core strength and such - he loves the hard pounding of gymnastics - it calms him) way before we got the doctors to say he was autistic.
The battles - even AFTER diagnosis - never end....
How is it that my sister in law has a son 2 and it took not even 3 months with birth to 3 and another place to diagnose him?
