My typical son started "pulling away" at about 6. Jesse is just starting to not want hugs around his dad or brother now. It is very typical. Boys tend to be all about mom for their first begining years and then over night realize they are like their dad, brothers, etc. I would let him have his space. Jesse and I have "snuggle time still" but I let him decide when. Your son is actually exhibiting a very normal boy behavior. I remember crying to my consultant when Jesse started, he looked me in the eye and said congrats mom its a boy and then explained it. He wants ur boyfriend and ex to see him as a little man, how awesome!
oh ok. yeah he comes around me when noone is looking
Sometimes what seems like a step backwards is actually progress. Although it feels bittersweet, your son may just be exercising his new found independence. Let him come to you on his own terms, and he will continue to be affectionate with you in private.
thank you. i appreciate that.
Smile, sorry I have to laugh Shelly he is just doing what the guys hint around doing, needing the bonding time but don't want to hurt our feeling. But what I love about autism you get NOTHING but the TRUTH.. HEHEHE the guys want you out their space girly enjoy that moment go and do something for you if it's just taking a long bath or reading a good book.. Do not feel bad it's nothing too do with you it's a "guy" thing. Smile, keep your chin up your a great mom..
