My 6 year old son has autism/ADHD does anyone have opinions on using meds to treat the ADHD?
Yes, meds was my sons last option. I was nati meds, but after i seen how much they helped him I'm glad I made that choice. Granted it took many adjustments and emds changes to find the ones that work best for him. But medicaiton only does 50% of it the rest is up to the kid and the support sytem and therapy and it takes all factors, not just meds alone. His dx is high functioning autism, o.c.d, o.d.d and a.d.h.d and anxiety disorder. My youngst son is A.D.D and in 4th grade I finally put him on meds because his behavioral was getting bad and his grades were AWFUL and now he is A-B honor roll, he has maintained those grades all year this year and you can tell a difference in his behavioral if he misses his meds.
we dont have diagnosis of ADHD but I recently talked with my pediatrician about Ethans lack of focus and distractability (not sure thats really a word) she advised me to talk with our developmental peds dr. but warned against stimulants with autism diagnosis. said they tend to make autism behaviors worse.
what does your ped say?
My son is 14 he takes adderall during the week and on the weekends he drinks coffee not a lot just a small cup. We found this works by accident he grabbed my cup one morning and was calm all day.
I agree talk to your doctor my son was on several different meds, they worked for a bit then made him more aggressive! Research any meds given
Thanks @A MyAutismTeam Member. That's worth exploring.
