Methyl B12 shots every other day have been a godsend for my adult son. Didn't start until about 5 years ago, but when we did, we weren't giving him nearly enough. 100% of the time he asks to be given his shot (as opposed to putting it off), even if he's playing video games. He says he needs his shot to feel good. He feels terrible when I forget it, though he cannot explain exactly how he feels. The doctor wrote the prescription inially as 2x week then 3x week, but there was always a "down day" with that timing. So I switched to every other day, which is easier to remember anyway (whether its an even day or an odd day). When I spoke with Dr. Neubrander in an elevator at a conference several years back when he came to Seattle, he said to think of the need for Methyl B12 for my son the same way a Type 1 diabetic needs insulin---that it is a Dependency, not a deficiency.

A holistic DAN doctor recommended i start my son on a combination of B12, Zinc, Omega 3, magneseum, and a probiotic. the language started coming almost immediately. i tried a GFCF diet at the same time, but that blew up quickly. i continued with the supplements above and he continued to blossom every day! I buy a B12 liquid by Pure Encapsulations (that is in methyl form) and liquid zinc from New Beginnings Nutritionals. they don't sell them in stores, so you have to go to their websites. each of the liquids i put in his morning juice and he can't detect them. i also put in a kids probiotic powder by Culturelle that you can get at any grocery store. the omega 3 i give him are in gummy form, but there is a better one by Barlean's that you can get at pretty much any natural grocers. my son can detect these easily and won't take them in any form but gummy form. the magneseum you can buy in a children's chewable, but my son wouldn't take it, so i've left that out. good luck!

yes, talk to a DAN doctor , and you may want to get more information about methyl B12.,, is not just b12 vitamins that we find in some foods ,,compounding pharmacies must make the injections . my daughter receives this treatment for almost 9 months we have seen a lot of progress specially in her language .

You want the bioactive METHYL form of B12, not regular B12. Some kids with ASD may have difficulty converting the regular B12 to the bioactive form, hence the benefit from the injections.

Yes, my little one recently finished participating in a study at University of California-San Francisco med school run by Dr. Robert Hendren. He has previously published research on mB12 where he found it effective in a subset of kids with ASD. The current study is wrapping up (it was supposed to be done with the experimental part by now but they had a bunch of families beg to be included at the last minute). According to Dr. Hendren, the preliminary data is showing about a 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 split between significant improvements, no improvement, and mild (like my DD) or mixed results (big improvements but also major side effects). Part of the analysis the Dr. Hendren and his team are doing is to see whether there are any biomarkers to distinguish between the responders and the non-responders. The hope is to develop a test that will predict whether or not a child is likely to respond to mB12 before parents shell out the $ and the kid starts receiving the injections.
