many thought my son was not autistic because he was too loving!!! He was found to be autistic because of the number of criteria he met. The Dr. explained that actually some children are overly affectionate with no fear of strangers. I mean there can be several reasons why your son enjoys hugging (even sensory), but to say he can not possibly be autistic because of it is hog wash!!! just saying...
If you are in public school you are entitled to an FIE( full individual evaluation) you can also ask for an autism evaluation by a multidisciplinary team which should include a school psychologist. If you do not agree with the result you can still get an outside evaluation that your school district will pay for. Medical diagnosis of autism and school eligibility for autism are different in that the medical diagnosis does not qualify your child for autism services. He needs an educational eligibility. If you just want to know if he does or does not actually have autism, you have three experts opinions. It seems like you have a very sweet boy who is trying to reach out. Please get him speech therapy from school as well as private through your insurance if
and school system. Best wishes
My son is very affectionate to those who show him love and respect. If you've always been affectionate with him, he'll be the same way. My son is also very verbal. Granted if he's really excited about something, he'll talk so fast that you can't understand him. We haveto tell him to slow down and repeat hhimself. Look at those teachers and tell them that it's called a spectrum disorder because EVERY child is different. Tell them to be grateful that he's hugging and not punching!
my son goes to the Indiana school for the blind and is vision impairment which is why to my understanding that they don't think he has it. they do think that he has ADHD which one doctor agree with. still looking for someone know about vision impairment and autism to help me fight the school
Kids with autism often have sensory issues. Search for sensory processing disorder. Star center in Denver Colorado is a good resource. This may explain the need for hugging. My son also likes hugging and squishing. As for the talking he may also need to hear the auditory stimulation which may be while he is talking a lot. My son also does this when it gets quiet in the classroom. Sensory therapy by an occupational therapist has done wonders for my son. I also would go by the medical diagnosis. Hope this helps. Good luck.
