I highly recommend the residential school called Wediko in Windsor NH. Our Son has been there for 1.5 years and is thriving. We felt it was his best chance at graduating high school, and he needed help in self help issues like showering, teeth brushing as well as social skills and pragmatic language. This school has compassionate teachers and does a great job with clinical therapy. All in a beautiful setting.
There is an inpatient facility in Liberty,TX called Meridell. I heard it is very good for behavior problems.
If he is a danger to self or others he may need to be hospitalized. When our 16 year old went through this, he kept getting more frustrated and began running away to take walks at all hours of the night. We went through the school district at age 14 and had him placed in a day therapeutic program. Unfortunately, he was not developing social skills and feeling connected to peers which equated to rebellion and heightened frustration and isolation at home. We eventually had the school district send him to a residential facility out of state and he is thriving! Learning social skills, more fluid communication and consistent self help skills.
Yeah, we have been working with his psychiatrist to help solve the problem, but right now we are very concerned he will hurt himself or someone else, so we would prefer an inpatient clinic for the time being. The inpatient clinic near us specializes in criminal rehabilitation and we are worried that taking him there may do more harm than good...
I heard someone on here talk about Abilify and Risperdal to help ease agression. I guess it depends on their state of mind and understanding about right and wrong. When I was mad I would have loved to have had a boxing bag to go out and punch instead of releasing agression in unhealthy ways.
