Thanks for your answers, my son did his first communion in our parish last month, I'm glad to hear that other children with ASD and their families were able to experience this, our school does so little to involve our kids in the community, that I thought what better way to start by introducing him in our parish, so he can start learning about God, love, values and all those things that schools and because he still is in a contained classroom won't be part of his learning due to all the tons of skills that he needs to learn to be included in Gen Ed, according to the school, public schools don't want anything to do with religions anyway.

We did. We talked for a few months about what we, as a family believed about it, why it was important, God's love and constancy, etc. Then, we allowed him to receive communion. We discussed it with our parish priest and he was good with it. He gave him a certificate later. My son is now 19 and very involved in his faith community. It's been good for him.

My son made his first communion, it's been years now, but my church's religious Ed program was very helpful to me. They made special accomodations for my son. I have a friend who's church did for her also. I would consult your church's religious education program.
