Has Anyone Tried Intuniv And Risperdal Together For Their Kiddo?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

We are in the process of weaning our 10 yr old off of fluvoxamine as he is showing signs of severe side effects ( extreme aggression/ rages) Since we started taking him off it ( almost 3 week process) , we have seen a slight improvement in his aggression. He is also on intuniv at night. His doctor would like to try risperdal with that to address his attention, impulsivity, anxiety and aggression. Has anyone tried this combination with their kiddo?

My son has Aspergers and ADHD , his behavior was out of control and he couldn't stay on task at all..He has been on Concerta , Risperdol and Intuniv for a couple of years and his behavior is perfect now . We started with Concerts and then added Intuniv in the afternoon at the third month. After five months Risperdol . In low doses these work well together for aggression, hyperactivity and keep him focused very well. I noticed that his poor uncontrolled behaviors diminished within a few months and he acts "normally" and I am happy with the results. My son did gain some weight even though his appetite has decreased, but he is growing into his weight now having jumped up around 5 1/ 2 inches in two years. He is now almost 5'8 and 140 at age 14.

This is what I was using for my year old. It works well. We changed from Risprodol to a longer lasting med that works the same way. It is called Abilify. I am quite pleased with the results. My son was very sleepy when we started this combination but eventually gets better.

My 7 year old is on 2 mg of Guanfacine and .25 mg of respirdal he takes that in the morning and 1 mg clonidine and .25 mg of respirdal at night . He was taking 1.0 mg of respirdal a day but he was super hyper with it. Even though he was happy. he also was throwing up every couple of days . So we lowered his dose and we added Guanfacine which is the same as Intunive I think. This combo has been great this week. He’s not bouncing off the walls anymore . But he definitely slept better with more respirdal at night...

I'm in the same boat. My son was on 1.5ml of respirodol and the weight gain kicked in so the doc suggested we try intuniv to increase concentration. I have found he is now more aggressive, cries a lot has impulsive crazy behaviour and is more ADHD than ever. He doesn't sleep. I'm not sure if I should give him both. I really hate medication but I know he needs something just not sure what. πŸ˜₯
