What Do LOVE About Your OT? What Would You Love More Of/less Of In Your OT Sessions?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

3 questions I would love knowing as an OT:

What do LOVE about your OT?
What would you love more of/less of in your OT sessions?
What type of OT are you working with right now? (ABA, Son-RIse, Floortime, Sensory, DIR, Etc)

I found a document on my daughter's school website:

It has a great description of the kinds of things the OT dept does.

I like how OTs are not 'control freaks'. They value a child-centered approach. They are not afraid to get messy and explore where the child is going. To the average person, it just looks like play. However, please parents, do not underestimate the training and planning that support those play-based therapies. It is a very holistic way of working with children. But, then again, I am an early childhood educator so I totally see the work involved! lol :)

I love that my OT has floor therapy training. I love that she gives my daughter choices. I love that she isn't a push over.

I would like more self regulation techniques and formal/organized systematic approaches (TAAP, interactive metronome..and the like), instead of "Sensory input" meaning he stims with a weighed snake for 10minutes. I love when I read about different programs and do thing sensory processing is overlooked cause of problems, however I have only seen one OT who follows anytype of systematic program and does "evals" to make sure the student is moving toward better regulation and skills..

I just wanted to say that I would totally trade in my teaching degree for an Occupational Therapy degree in a heart beat! I love what you guys do! It is creative yet practical. It is a science and an art. OT's rock and we love you for your way of thinking outside the box!
