Anyone Know?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We are desperately trying to figure out where to go to get help for our 4 year old non verbal asd son. We are currently in southern ky which (pardon language) sucks as far as resources, therapy are concerned. We are to the point of relocation. Any input to best state will be appreciated. He was accepted to a school in Florida called FACE in Tampa, but not sure about the area. We have also looked at Ohio.

Do not go to Florida I was there and there are no covered services. On top of that the doctors are not very good. We had to travel three hours to get a just average one.

The top two states are MA and NJ for ASD and the northern states are far better than the south by a long shot. Remember a state with low to no tax is going to mean no services.

I am in MA and could not be happier with what my children get . We do not pay for any medical expenses and the school district pays for my daughter to go to a residential program at New England Center for Children at a cost if 360,000 a year. Check out NECC they are one of if not the best in the country at what they do.

Relocating here just to attend FACE would be dissapointing to you. Not saying it is not a good school, just not all that to relocate for. The whole school system here is in turmoil. Even charters like face. I'm not far from FACE but we choose the local public schools ESE services for our 5 year old for the last 2 years.

We relocated to Minnesota. We live in Rochester now. The state has a disability medicaid insurance program which has a premium. This is different from the low income medicaid. Disability is what qualifies the child not income. We also have a state grant that pays for a lot of things not covered by insurance. There are alot of resources here. Speech, OT, Music therapy, Social Groups, Adaptive Rec program for kids with special needs, Aide programs to assist your child to attend acitivities such as swimming lesson with NT children.(our grant pays for this) I also have been impressed with the school system here. We also have Mayo Clinic. Hope this helps. Oh I forgot we have ABA schools. Two of them. We just got into one and they are doing amazing things for my son. There was a waiting list but worth the wait. Our medicaid pays for this 100%. We also have someone from behavioral health working with us to help with family skills. We have been here a year and I thank God for this move.

We live in MA and I hear it is number one or two in the country for services. We do get a lot, but depending on the school district it can be a fight to get out of district.
