Does anyone have a dentist recommendation for toddlers with autism in metro Detroit area? Thanks!
Thanks for that suggestion. I found a video model about going to the dentist off of youtube. I might try that since my son is very visual and learns from videos real well. Thanks.
My daughter is in residential but during the day she goes to the schools day program. They have a mock dentist , and dr exam room where they bring the children for short periods of time at first without doing anything and then move up to the teachers wearing scrubs and finally to them doing some basic representations of what the child will expect if they were at a real office.
They have had great results from this and it has done wonders for my daughter. I understand this may not be possible in the real world but if you can ease the child into it it generally works best. Other than that you may have to put your child under to have anything done. I have heard of some so called dental specialist for special needs children who restrain them to get the job done but I would advise against that
