So I just got a thing in the mail for jury duty. I think it would be awesome, personally. My problem is, I have absolutely no friends or even acquaintances or family with in 600 miles. Kids are in school from 9-3. But jury duty can have the possibility of lasting several days. You can get excused, I just had this happen to me, it's classified as "undue hardship" but on that note most jury summons don't come to play as most court matters get settled before the court date. On the summons towards the bottom it should have a place explanation for excuse or something, just state this will cause undue hardship to my family. Then state reasons, mine where due to work and being a single parent of two disabled children. I did not specifi their disabilties. Usually that is enough to be said. Hope this helps, good luck!
I've brought my son to court on a non-moving traffic issue I told them my son was autistic and could I please go first. They said no and I clearly stated this was an ADA request and I was protected under the Act. They said no. My 4 year old son eloped went up to the judge, clerk and court reporter before I could get him. My case was called next and I won, as did my son.
Yes, you can get excused. This happen to me last spring. I just explained I had a special needs child and I was immediately excused.
