Good point on list of child's symptoms. Our DAN asked us to do an ATEC which we had already done before hand, so saved time. Not sure if your DAN will do it, but it is a good idea to track development milestones/areas of concerns over time (even if not seeing DAN). When we started, our ATEC score was around 80 and right now, we are around 25 or so.

Write down a list of your child's symptoms, no matter how unrelated they may seem to ASD. I also agree with reading Dr. Kenneth Bock's book and/or Dr. Bob Sears' one.

First appointment is usually about getting to know your child and family history, areas of main concerns, routine physical exam and will likely order a bunch of initial testing. The doc may outline his approach on treating any comorbid symptoms that he believes can be tested and addressed. I believe most DANs will first start with addressing diet and gut. There are hundreds of questions that one can ask on that topic alone but will likely run out of time. To speed things up a little, I would recommend reading any basic biomed book such as the "Healing the new childhood epidemic" by Dr. Ken Bock or the one from Dr Sears. Good luck.

I think its a red flag if the DAN doctor asks you start a bunch of interventions without first doing blood and urine workups. There are some being good tests out there to find out if you child has heavy metal issues, GFCF issues, etc. I'm not saying everything can be checked via a test. But many of the biomedical interventions have cooresponding tests.
