How are the services in your state( possible relocation )?
We live in Franklin County and my son attends Haugland Learning Center. Up through this year, the Autism Scholarship paid all the tuition. This coming school year, tuition will increase to (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) can be paid with the scholarship. $1,000 is out of pocket. First tuition increase in about 10 years.
yes SELF waiver can cover ABA--- it's a new waiver that just started in July of last year so it's a much shorter wait list than IO or Level one.
how many children in my kids' classes---- I'd say about 20--- they're both mostly being mainstreamed with the support of intervention specialists. And no supplemental funding, no---- the Ohio scholarship only gives $20,000. you get that OR public school. If you take the scholarship then YOU'RE paying for private school above the $20,000. Our local autism schools are $70,000 (Lerner) and $75,000 (Monarch) per year. There are autism PRESCHOOLS that are $20,000 or less per year but anyone who isn't placed by their DISTRICT in autism schools, their parents are rich or willing to go crazy fundraising.
I'm in Cleveland. Where in Ohio are you looking? I have a lot of friends in New York who have an easy time getting reshab, SSI and waivers but here in Ohio none of that is easy at all. There is a new waiver here that's a bit easier but in our county the main waivers have a 10 year wait list. My kids are in public school and getting the typical 20 minutes of OT and 20 minutes of speech a week, etc---- but I've been very impressed with the intervention specialists at their schools and pleasantly surprised by public school. No ABA provided by the district, insurance doesn't cover it..... so we haven't yet been successful in getting real behavior therapy--- one of my twins was just approved for SELF waiver but there's still a couple of months until we'll be able to get services.... hanging in there. :)
