Members shared encouragement and practical advice about navigating the UCLA partial hospitalization program for autism, with several describing long wait times of one to two years and emphasizing the importance of calling frequently to check status and advocate for placement. Many members expressed the emotional challenge of waiting for services, with one parent describing a three-month gap after their child aged out of early intervention and another sharing the heartbreak of watching their child struggle to make friends. A recurring theme was the critical need for persistence in securing autism services, with one speech-language pathologist and parent calling the UCLA program phenomenal for its multidisciplinary approach addressing speech, social skills, OT, and behavior.

I am an SLP and a mom of a boy with HFA and ADHD. I used to work at that program. It is phenomenal. Stay on the wait list and keep calling to check your status. It is multi-disciplinary program that addresses speech, social, OT, behavior, and many other parenting issues. I wish there were more programs like it. Some of my clients have gone, even after other people told them not to, and they all come out raving about it.

@A MyAutismTeam Member when did you get on the waiting list? Call every other day and ask how close you are getting and if anyone is moving on from the program. We were on the waiting list for 1.5 year and when I started calling they said that they had no idea when he would be able to get in. After 2 weeks I got a call and was informed that he was able to start in 1 week! Lucky? Probably not... In LA I only got anything done for my son after being very aggressive and insistent on his services.
We don't call ourselves warriors for nothing. We got to fight for our babies to get the best treatment. They are not handing it out.
