My son is in 5th grade and has ADHD and high functioning Asperger's. We are searching for a good school to accommodate him in 6th grade and can't seem to find any. There are elementary schools and high schools but I'm having a hard time finding a middle school. Please help if you have recommendations. He needs an environment that will cater to his social needs as well as his academic needs. We will travel anywhere in the metro area. He is becoming disenfranchised with school as more kids become… read more

My sister used to live in Eagan but I'm not from the area. I have to say, I'm impressed with your public school information. A lot of school systems don't hardly even mention spec ed on their info. Here is what I found:

If that is what you're currently doing but you feel he needs a smaller setting, you could push for him to be taken out of the mainstream classes.
Here's another article about your public school autism classrooms:

And wow! (Not that this helps you this instant ) but Lionsgate Academy for grades 7 - 12 is really impressive!

I am not familiar with the metro area. However, I am familiar with Lutheran schools. Lutheran schools are the 2nd largest parochial school system. My children all attended and my daughter attends a lutheran elementary school now and while they do not Offer special education I have watched them work very closely and lovingly with students on the spectrum. My son is on the spectrum and attends the Lutheran preschool and they have been very good as well. On researching I also learned there was a grant to help prepare and encourage Lutheran schools to welcome students on the spectrum. Our school has a scholarship program for those who need financial help, so don't dismiss it because you assume you can't afford it. Good luck!
