Has Anyone Ever Tried Klonopin?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I apologize if this question has come up before. We currently use Klonopin for our son's aggression. We only give it to him when he is having meltdowns. Just wondering if anyone has had success with Klonopin wafers and if so, how many mgs?

Yes we have has great success . My daughter 17 takes one before the bus every day. The bus with its movement and noise causes a lot of anxiety. This med works very fast and does not last too long to interfere with attention at school. We have had tremendous success w fluoxetine (Zoloft) and abilify. Helps w the obsessions, anxiety, aggression.

We did use it for a few months for the same issues but it is a strong drug. Our neurologist did not want to keep our daughter on it because we had to increase dosage a few times and for the benefit we got he did not want her to end up with side effects.

We started seeing constipation and we thought she was hallucinating so he put a stop to it.

I don't know if it's specifically for agression but the aggression comes out of the anxiety. She becomes over stimulated and anxious and acts out by pushing someone etc. so it does work in her case. The drug topimax (topirimate) is used for both seizures and obsessive type behaviors. She did take that along with the fluoxetine. It is given to bipolar patients as well. I noticed her affect was very flat and she couldn't concentrate so I told the doc we should rethink it. For awhile at a lower dose it did work and every child is different so It may be worth Inquiring about.
