My son's therapist have started talking about meds for my son To help with sleeping and im guessing the behaviors though they didnt really SAY that. I wasn't to worried when it was mostly the sleep issues they were talking about but now their saying drug names like klonopin. That scares me. Anyone have a child on it?? How much? Did it work? Side effects?? I'm scared and I don't know what to do.
In my opinion Do not let him take Klodopin. Such a powerful drug. I feel its a bad drug. Too young.
I would try melatonin, a natural hormone we all make in our brain to sleep before going to a hard core drug!!!
It sounds like they want to use the Klonopin for more than the sleep issues. My daughter was on it briefly and we took her off because the side effects outweighed the benifits. For just sleep Trazadone works well to get you to sleep and for the most part keep you asleep without a lot of side effects, we have noticed none and she has been in it for almost two years.
The thing with meds is that what works for one won't work for another so you have to try different ones until you find what works.
If you are dealing with a big sleep issue melatonin is not going to work it is not strong enough. My son takes it and he is good with it but it never worked for my daughter.
I'm 44 and I'm on klonopin to help with my hyperacusis . It's a sedative medication with a lot of side effects. My son with ASD has the issue of having a hard time falling asleep, his neurologist suggested melatonin. We started with .5mg and as he got older to 1 mg. Gnc has 1mg that disolves in your mouth. It works great. We used a pill cutter to cut them in half. We tried others and 3mg and the ones from gnc worked the best.
Type klonopin in Google and it will give you all the side effects. Any trouble i can type the list for you
