SSI Applied For 8 Year Old. Not Denied Yet, But My Daughter Was Asked To Take Her Son To Three Different Evaluations. Is It Worth It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I posted a question a couple months ago about SSI and my 8yr old grandson. My daughter applied August 13th. The intake person told her she felt they would not request additional evaluations because she had so much documentation. Yesterday she got a large packet. SS had made three different appointments for her son. Speech, Psych and some other kind of testing.I am wondering if it is worth putting him through all this. No You can get SSI at any time there is no age limit. You also do not need an attorney most times when it comes to children. I will say it is easier the younger they are and the more documentation you have.

Getting disability for an adult is much harder because they tend to scrutinize things more. I have seen them give autistic children s hard time when they are teenagers close to adulthood as well because they wonder why no one tried getting it an early age.

Oh and those tests aren't anything bad. Usually questions. Tests them on what they can or cannot do compared to standardized tests etc.. with accordance to their age group.

Yes they need these evaluations. It is standard if the child has not already been tested. If they have then you just show them what you have. Otherwise you will get denied. They need the documentations on the child progression. My son had these testings done at 3 for placements in earlystart preschool special ed (part of his IEP), so they used those.

I have never heard of them doing that before, but that is why it is important to have the testing done prior to applying, and also have the doctors write up letters on your behalf.

Either was they cannot take away a medical RX.

I have noticed many parents have questions about SSI. So for anyone interested, I started a support group for parents of children receiving, or going through the process to receive SSI. Come join us! https://www.facebook.com/groups/306167079807208/
