my son is four and still not potty train any ideas or tips on how to get him going on his own he can not speak but is very smart when he wants something to eat or drink he brings me the food or beverage to me so I know he will understand when I say peepee and poop and point at the toilet seat so far he's pee on his self twice and once in the toilet but I had to take him and sit him down
Thank u all now I can try alot of different ways and I can prepare myself for a struggle but knowing he will get there soon gives me some peace and I will be patient....
We went to a therapist who gave us a potty training protocol to use and it worked! He was potty trained in two days. The protocol consisted of a two day period where you load them with fluids and take them to the potty every 10 minutes. If they go in their pants you have them help you put the pants in the hamper and get new ones, then take the child back to the place of the accident TEN times, no less. You say, we don't go potty in our pants we go potty in the potty chair and then take them back to the bathroom and sit them on the potty or toilet. It did wonders. Also, the diapers were cut out complete except for at night.
My son learned to go #1 with the help of ABA and watching his peers at school when he was 3. He was terrified of going #2. I thought it would never happen. I tried everything. Then I decided I would just wait (and pray) for him to be ready. No more pressure! Just give it more time. Then!...one day after he turned 4 he had to go #1 and #2 at the same time! I had to sit him down and coach him through it "it's ok its ok"! And he did it and I praised him and he's been going on his own ever since! It was a miracle!
You need to be patient and reinforce him when he uses the potty. I literally sat with him for hours in the bathroom and would overly praise him when he used the potty. I also bought him a potty seat with steps from Amazon that he still uses. He is fully potty trained. It took us (preschool/home) two weeks of intensive time and reinforcements to potty train him, but well worth it. It totally paid off.
Heck if you live in the country and he is outside and he has to pee tell him to go water a tree. This worked for my younger brother when my mom was having a hard time with potty training!!
