Looking For Advice On A Tablet For A Toddler
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have a tablet or hand held device they recommend for a toddler? My daughter is not talking yet and she loves computer and phone games. My thought is to get her something for her birthday on 2/13 when she turns 2. I've looked at the leappad and cubby but not sure about any of this. Any suggestions or what works for other parents?

I forgot to add that I think the tablet hurt my daughter's ability to communicate as she taps keys to see the reaction without really understanding much of it. There's less interaction with people so I see it as a distraction more than a educational tool.

and when you get a chance, use ABC Mouse.com for your daughter to enjoy on the computer.

I would agree with you on that! We got our daughter an Ipad and she loves it, but it shuts her off from us and everything she enjoys is very repetitive. We only use it now as a distraction at the doctors or as a reward for trying new foods.

My wife bought an $400 Ipad for my daughter which seemed crazy to me at the time. Overpriced and you're handling to a kid with autism. Our Ipad still isn't lost, broken or stolen but I wouldn't buy one when there are far cheaper models that are just as good.
