I would try non medication ides first. Harvey doesn't look when I point so I direct his head or use a pointer stick with a big hand on it and for other activities I buckle him in to a seat.

I usually would let my son look at me first, eye contact is important and then use a calm voice, making sure he can hear me and then give him a chance to respond being patient for his response.

I give my son Omega-3 and DHA gummy supplements in the morning and they help him to focus more. Also could there be any background noises that are distracting him? I notice my son is more focused at home without music or television in the background and also zones out more like at restaurants or public places where there is a lot of critter chatter. It is hard for them to tune these distractions out so by trying they end up tuning what they should be listening to out as well. Something as simple as a fish tank, ceiling fan, or air conditioner can even cause this.

Until age 11, we had the help of a naturopath who gave us nutritional advice and taught a number of focusing tricks. After that, we put him into a cognitive program that essentially trained his brain to hold focus. That was very helpful! We didn't do meds as we were told they wouldn't help in our son's case. We later realized that he had auditory processing disorder, which means that he hears, but but his brain doesn't always "file" the information. He does better in classrooms where the teacher is wired with a mic.

I have tried all of the above and finally ended up having to give him a medication for his ADHD and he's doing very good so far. I do have a question sometimes he makes off the wall comments which are not good to say at school because they have to consider them treats to other students. Anyway they waited a week to get me involved and now when they ask him why he said it he cant remember. Their wanting to put him in, in school suspension for 15 days I am very upset about this and don't no really where to turn. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to tell me. Thanks' for listening if anyone would like to email me u can it's [[email: [[email: [[email: [[email: (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators)
