Do any of you home school your ASD teen? Because of serious bullying issues, I am seriously considering this option. I am just very overwhelmed and don't really know where to start. Any help and guidance would be appreciated. :)
Hello. Although I work, we decided to pay a teacher to teach our son at home. He is now 14, and I believe has made progress that we would not have seen if he were in a group situation. We have employed the guidance of a curriculum consultant (we do an RDI-based program). We try to incorporate Brain Gym, MNRI, and speech work along with the academic stuff. Some programs that have helped us are Teaching Textbooks (great math program with workbooks and videos that guide lessons for kids at different levels), Time 4 Learning. and Brain Pop. Good luck. So cool that you are considering this for your kid. My heart goes out to you. So sad that the bullying is going on.
We had a daily schedule but could coordinate around our daily activities.
Thank you very much for the info. Was K12 very flexible or did it have a rigid schedule?
We used K12 during a time when we were moving around, my ex husband works in the oil field. Once the move was over my kids went back to public school for a few years. Due to another move we are back homeschooling for the remainder of the school years. I originally choose K12 because that's what we used before but they didn't have space available this year. I found Connections Academy and have been very pleased with the program so far. Hope that helps.
ApsieMom01, if you don't mind me asking, why did you switch from K12 to Connections Acadamy?
