Members offered thoughtful support to a parent whose 17-month-old son experiences unusual facial and hand movements that EEG testing ruled out as seizures, with many suggesting the episodes could be involuntary tics, which often co-occur with autism, or possibly related to Tourette syndrome or the seizure spectrum. Several members shared personal experiences, including one whose child had similar symptoms that turned out to be pediatric migraines with atypical presentations like compulsive behaviors rather than pain, and another who emphasized that while these tics can look alarming, anti-seizure medications and other treatments are available if needed. A recurring theme was reassuring the parent that the upcoming MRI in September should provide clearer answers, offering prayers and encouragement while validating how scary and confusing it is to watch a young child experience something so difficult to explain.

I don't know if its possible in a child that young but you might want to ask about migraines. A couple years ago, my son started having migraines. The episodes alway start with one ear turning bright red and then some type of uncontrollable behavior ranging from running into walls to gagging, to itching. Many times he didn't experience the classic migraine pain and if he did, it was the very last symptom to show up. Apparently, involuntary or compuslive behavior can be fairly common in kids with migraines. We thought he was having seizures but the testing came back negative. We went to a pediatric neurologist to figure this out.

Thanks hun see they are putting it all down to autism cos he's 17 months and only says mama Dada baba but doesn't associate the names with people he doesn't point at things and doesn't make eye contact 90% of the time and doest respond when u call him only half of the time. Its just that little thing he does with his fists and face has me quite scared and worried do u reckon something will come back off the MRI scan and show why he is doing g that? Sorry for all the questions I just feel in the dark about the hole lot if this to be honest x

It just looks like involuntary tics..all of that is tied in somehow with the seizure spectrum. It doesn't necessarily have to be autism!on a lighter note, does he have gas or anything when that happens?
