Hi

I am from Saudi Arabia . My wife and I spent  and wasted 9 years searching for good services for our son but, unfortunately , there is no good services for autistic kids in Saudi Arabia.

It is fortunate that we managed to have a scholarship for my son from the ministry of education in  Saudi Arabia to Dubai UAE. Having the Saudi government paying for any services will be a big help as many o autism programs are expensive. My wife traveled to Dubai with my son . They spent a year . For… read more

If money isn't an issue then you should look in to 2 of the only private schools that I know of in WA state that specialize in educating autistic kids: CHILD (www.childnow.org) and APL (www.aplschool.org). As far as evaluations and therapy go the Children's Autism Clinic (part of the Seattle Children's Hospital) and the UW Autism Center are going to probably be your most thorough, "one stop shops". There are other places but in WA state these 2 are probably your best bet and are by far the most popular, with waiting lists to prove it (plus they can help you find/refer you to other/private therapists). I would recommend joining the Yahoo group "Autism King" to get insight on particular schools, therapists and autism related information for Western WA. This group is fairly active and has a wide range of experienced parents & caregivers. The ARC of King County (www.arcofkingcounty.org) is also a great resource for information. Joining a special needs parent support group in the area you settle in will be very beneficial for gaining information, your sanity and understanding friends. If you decide on a public school with private therapy please make yourself aware of the federal laws IDEA & FAPE (as well as what an IEP is). These are the laws that guide the schools on special needs services but sometimes we parents have to remind the school systems of these laws. Good Luck!

A lot of places here in the Seattle/Tacoma area have wait lists so I would recommend contacting as many as you can. Some of the places that I know see kids over the age of 3 yrs are Seattle Children's Hospital autism program, Seattle Therapy Network, University of Washington's Autism Center, Children's Therapy Center, and Northwest Center. There are a lot of private practice therapists as well. If you're searching by county, use "King County" for the Seattle/Bellevue area and "Pierce County" for the Tacoma area. I hope this helps!
