Pre K Or Kindergarten?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 5 year old is suppose to be starting school this year and soon. He's not ready for Kindergarten and it's evident (never still, never quiet). I don't know if I can send him to Pre K due to his age or not. Where I live there are no resources for ASD and I can't find anything on the website for my school district to help. Does anyone know if a 5 year old can go to Pre K? I'm in Whitfield County, Ga if that helps.

my son has a july birthday and I did not send him to kindergarden till the following year... it is your choice to wait an extra year. my son just did an extra year of pre-k and it was the best choice I could have made.

I got little books from my Wal-mart store for my boys for grades pre-k and kindergarten. We worked on them together and also told them fun story's from when I was in those grades. Before school started I talked with the school to see if I can bring me son in to see his class room and has her show him a little of what he will be doing in class and it helped alot

Here in Pa. they have therapeutic kindergarten for special needs and it starts at 5. Prior to that my son was in a specialized pre-school program for special needs. He is 19 now so there must be a lot more out there by now I would think for autism and other special needs.

And even if you feel that she's not ready... Like many parents do the teachers are trained to work with kids on all different levels and graduate them up a level when they are ready.
