Hello,

My 5 years old Asperger/adhd child started kindergarten and it's a disaster. He hits adults there (had never hit anyone before - he went through 2 years of special pre-K). He is great at daycare and at home, it's only in school that he has problems. I think the teacher is not helping - in 2 words: she does not want him in her classroom, she is extremely rigid. I think he is stressed in her classroom and the whole school environment.

Anyway I'd like to give him "stuff" for being less… read more

He already eats very little refined food and sugars and takes fish oil... He sleeps more than 11 hours/night but he seems tired during the day, I am wondering if his sleep is of good quality - at home on week ends he always naps. And he is dealing with his dad's loss. He was dismissed this week from school and they wanted to dismiss him this afternoon, I said I could not come pick him up... They are gearing up to have him out of their school, quite obvious.

I have already asked for a switch for a different teacher, who to me is a big problem, but they did not even bother answering.

Sarah: My son sees a counselor for his loss. I took him to see a behavioral psychologist on Friday who told me there was not much she could do as the "bad behavior" occurs only at school and nowhere else: it's up to the school to "fix it".

Christine: my son is allergic to milk (and me to gluten), so no milk but he does eat a lot of bread. I do not want to remove the bread. I do want to try the Feingold diet once I am less stressed.

Just spoke with a friend who happens to be a teacher in a different school, she has experience in the field, she says schools are stubborn, they won't change their mind... I may want to ask my child advocate for private school recommendations - except I am not floating on money...

Just another thought, do you think counseling would be beneficial?

Bless your heart...you have had so many changes also. I think finding a good teacher can make a world of difference. After a checkered PreK history, my daughter is thriving in first grade becuase of a teacher who gets her and has set up lots of positive reward systems for her. I'm glad the behavior specialist is going to observe and see what is going on, maybe a switch to a different teacher in the same school would be a good move. I know a rigid strict teacher would totally stress my daughter out and when she is stressed we start seeing meltdowns over every little thing. We had to switch teachers in PreK and it was absolutely the right decision.....there was an immediate change in her behavior

Hi OneAwesomeSon: thanks for your suggestions. The school just had his EIP redone... To conclude after 1.5 hour that they cannot enforce it and he needs to go to a special ed class in a different school - that was yesterday. I said no.

My husband passed away 6 months ago, we moved to a different state for my job: my son has had enough changes in his life recently and I want him to finish his Kindergarten year where he is - even if obviously it's not ideal. I wilk check out alternatives, I hired a child advocate to help me with the EIP situation, she is going to go observe him in the classroom with the rigid teacher in 10 days. I absolutely do not want him in a special ed class, a private school yes that would work but he needs to be with typical kids.
