Diagnosis?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello
It seems as almost everyone has an actual diagnosis for their kids, but we did a little bit of early intervention through the county before age 3, stopped it, and then when we got concerned again went straight to the school district, which led to a full evaluation by them and placement in amazing therapy based preschool and he still gets as much therapy in kindergarten. We aren't interested in any outside therapy because we feel he gets enough presently at school, but will there be a… read more

Thanks @KatieCat . I'm going to call Autism Speaks soon. He already has a one on one aide whenever he is in the mainstream classes, so I am lucky because we have a great school district and they have been very generous in hi IEP. I would just like the diagnosis at some point to have it as a safety net for him. Our pediatrician told me she can't diagnos, it would have to be a developmental pediatrician, but I like the idea of the psychiatrist/psychologist so I may do that in the future with the cash price. Thanks! I really wish that regular pedistrician's can just do the diagnosis.

@A MyAutismTeam Member thanks for the insight! I think our income would be too high to get him on Medicaid though....but would he need a medical (not educational) diagnosis to get any benefits like that? Sorry so many questions.

@A MyAutismTeam Member I think that might have been done when he was evaluated to get on an IEP at age 3....his disability is listed as developmental delay and the school psychologist was there for that process. Do you mean as he is older to request that? Would that just count as an educational diagnosis?
