It seems my son Gabriels sleeping patterns are all jacked up. He used to be on a set schedule with his naps between 12-1pm and he would sleep for 3 hours and then when it was his acutal bed time he would be easy to put down between 9-10 and sleep throught the night with no problems. Now naps are not in the picture so when bedtime rolls around you would think he would be getting a little tired or close to winding down right??...NOPE! Not my son lol. So my question is have any of yall considered… read more

Members shared mixed experiences with melatonin for children with sleep difficulties, with some reporting it worked beautifully to establish better sleep routines and create calmer, well-rested mornings, while others described concerning side effects including aggression, crankiness, anxiety, and facial tics that required stopping the supplement. Several members recommended alternatives like valerian root or Methyl B-12 treatment, and many emphasized working closely with a pediatrician to find the right approach for each child's unique needs. A recurring theme was the exhausting reality of childhood sleep struggles and the relief parents feel when they finally find something that helps their family rest.

My son is 5 years old, since he was 3, the nights were a nightmare, only slept 4 or 5 hours. Fortunately we found a true specialist in autism.
We spent two years with a treatment called Methyl B-12.
Now my son has no problems sleeping (8-10 hours). Looks you in the eyes and is much quieter. I do not need to give something to calm his anxiety or make him sleep.

My daughter is 25, I tried melatonin and it caused her to be aggressive. So I switched back to valerian root.
I would also suggest you going to activity page and search melatonin to see what other parents have said about it.

My daughter uses Melatonin with her 4 1/2 year old ASD with sleep issues on the recommendation of her pediatrician. I believe she gives him about 3mg of the liquid in root beer ...the kind with no alcohol 20 to 30 minutes before bed. She has had some success with it. Good luck.

I use melatonin and it works for me by quieting my mind when it is racing.
