my son is kind of like beastybacon's. now he is 3.5 yrs old. he's not a full talker, but he has more words. and now he is starting to repeat words when we say them to him. it's not real clear but that's where the speech therapy comes in. last year, I wondered if he would ever communicate, this year, I'm not too worried because I've seen progress. my son hasn't progressed verbally as his older brother at this age, but he is making small steps forward. he has been diagnosed with asd. he doesn't have extensive behavior issues, but when he gets frustrated by not being able to communicate, that was kind of a sign for us that he is asd, cause it would be really extreme. but then again I don't know what will happen in another year, maybe he was just really upset because he couldn't communicate and when he can fully communicate it wasn't asd just a verbal delay. time will tell. right now we just love our boy and try to provide him the resources he needs. best wishes to you

Whoa sounds like my son! We did sign language (3 signs) and finally after several months we got the 'more' to stick and he does it all the time now. Occasionally we hear the mo part as well.
We should be starting ABA for him once we move back stateside. He will be 3 by then. We tried just taking pictures of his drink and toys and would try to give him the words but it didn't seem to work that way.
Haha we say our actions all the time and repeat repeat repeat in this household. Lol! It's what we hope will help our son if we just keep saying words about everything we do and just keep it a routine.
Good luck with potty training!!!! Lol I am not sure when my son will do it but he's always taking his diaper off lol hopefully by 4 he will be ready but with communication in the way idk if he will understand potty training. I do wish u all well with it and everything else :)
thanks! I wanted to add. we started with some signing. he learned "more" and that was about it lol. then it progressed to the sign of "more" with a speech approximation of "mo". then he started aba at 3. the therapist suggested PEC image cards for communication. three pictures on a card and we would ask him what do you want? he would pick out the card. we would say the word. now he will say the word. we didn't use a full pecs system more like showing him that things have names.and letting him have things that stimulated his mouth moving like singing songs and eating ice cream and an occasional lollipop kind of helped too. he never was a kid to put things in his mouth so the plastic chew toys never worked with him. it might seem funny, but we say our actions or reiterate and repeat words all the time. good luck to you all. wish us well, we're about to start potty training lol.
My son started saying the typical baby words mama baba dada nana etc but lost his words at 13 months.
I occasionally get a mama and lots of babbling at 2.5 years old. I know it's hard to look at the positive when other children are talking & when progress is slow but just have hope that one day they will speak :)
Communication is more then just talking though. I know it's very easy to get hung up on just the talking part but I guess for me it's different since my son literally didn't communicate by showing/pointing, or anything. Very challenging to know what he needed or wanted.
Now I try to find ways to get things to click with my son. We did sign language (eat, drink, more) for several months and one day I decided to swing him in this homemade hammock I made with his blanket. He loved swinging in it so much that about 3 days later he brought me his blanket and signed 'more' (for more swinging). Now he always uses the sign more for everything that he wants more of. I love it!
Just with that I hope that talking clicks with our children as well. I know it worries you as it does to me as well, but we have to pray and hope that they will find their words one day :) Stay strong :)
she's 2.5. My "normal" son didn't really start until 3. Best thing is to simply be the best parent you can. Get your child regular pediatric visits, and see what nature will bring you
