A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 17 and failing school. He stopped going late last year and I got him into online public school but he is overwhelmed again and not doing his work. Yes he would. Some kids just can't do the work and it feels like they'd rather he drop out than get a GED. My special Ed child shouldn't have to pass chemistry, geometry, algebra, and a foreign language to graduate. Teach him something he will use! Life skills, how to balance a check book, interpersonal skills. :(

Here in Texas we ended up having to test him and give him his GED because he refused to do his school work. It was a really hard year but basically decided to just get him through.

We are going through this now in Ohio..
It's so frustrating bc my son learns differently and requires an alternate assessment... he doesn't receive a diploma...
It's as if they are saying these kids dont matter

How is your son doing? I am going through this now my son refuses school because of anxiety and does not do school work online. Was your son able to get special accommodations to take his GED?
