My Son Is Stealing And Lying About It. Help!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Recently my son has taken up stealing (money, toys, etc). I am concerned because this behavior is not typical for him. His explaination was that we take things from him (as punishment) so he should take our things. I don't know what to do so that he understands that is not at all okay.

He's 9 and doesn't seem sorry until someone gets angry with him.

I came here for answers - my 12 year old I just got caught today. He stole money and an heirloom coin from his grandmother. We are disappointed in him. He also sneaks food but I guess that’s stealing - we didn’t see it as that but I guess it is stealing. I am overwhelmed and my head is spinning.

I know how you feeling. I have 19 years old (who started at age 14) austic son that steals food, toys, paper, and pencils. I don't know what to do as well. It's good to know I'm not the only one going through this.
