Stephen Has Become 'Aware' Of The Holidays This Year, And I Am At A Loss.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

As with this years Halloween, Stephen has suddenly realized the Holidays. 21 Years on this Planet, not caring about the days that come and go, except for the School Days, this year has been very different.

And that has Me at a Loss on His behalf.

What is He expecting?

All that I can give Him is what I know, what I have been doing for a couple of Decades. But since this year is 'Different', for Him and thus for Me, it has to be 'Special' to show Him that I have noticed.

Do you know what he likes? My son is simple. A Veggie tales DVD. He likes clothing and I have given him money so that he can have the fun of picking things out.

You can also have him help you with decorations around inside the house. How about an Advent calendar to use to count down the days until?

Kevin enjoys the music and the movies. He likes going to the stores and pushing the buttons for the singing/dancing santas and others. He enjoys the family meal and get together time. He does some of his own shopping for others.,We have 2 or 3 of his friends over to watch a Christmas movie, eat pizza and play games. We've gone to the tree lighting for our town and the caroling but he didn't much care for those. This year he helped with the tree for the first time (not interested before). We focus on the joy of the season but let him enjoy at his own pace without overwhelming.

I would also like to suggest that maybe have Stephen make a little craft or candy canes to give to the people he wants to. Or even let him have a big box of Christmas cards to hand out to anyone, he wouldn't even have to sign them if he is the one handing them out. I think it may be fun for him to be able to give something this year.

How do you think he would do at a live nativity performance at a church? I'll be honest, I'm no fan of church. But last night Gab went to a live performance at one with her TSS worker and really enjoyed it. There they had live goats, lambs the characters, and live music. They also gave out hot chocolate.
She surprised me! Years ago, trying to get her to sit in church was impossible. But I have to say this much she's changed, improved so much with socializing.
Anyway there's an idea sent your way!Good luck!!
