How Can I Encourage My 5 Year Old To Keep His Hands Out Of His Mouth?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 5 year old used to often put his hands in his mouth, mostly in new situations or when he was asked to do something challenging I think. But about 2 months ago, he started doing it all the time, regardless of the situation. His classmates don't want to be around him. His teacher is always telling him to wash his hands or put hand sanitizer on them. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My 7 yr old grand daughter still does this. She has done it for years. I am on here trying to find out if it is normal for a girl to hump pillows & stuffed animals???

My son has autism and he's 8 years old and he does the same thing he will do this thing where he'll lay on his stomach and put pillows underneath his groin area and he'll just rapidly very fast like hump the pillows to where he's like starting to sweat and it looks like he's almost having a seizure but he's just humping with his pelvic area on top of the pillows and I'm like what are you doing son and he'll say I'm humping lol. And I said no let's say I'm moving cuz I don't want him to turn it into like a sexual thing or get him in trouble for saying that at school or to someone else so I just told him to rephrase it by saying I'm I'm moving. Now I did take him to a specialist for ABA therapy and I told him about this and they called it pelvic movements it's like a stimulatory behavior and they said that they could correct it but they never did I never did get the proper therapy for him because the insurance fell through somehow with the authorization so that is something I'm still trying to work on getting him help with
