Driving

Trying to get my 20 yr to do driving lessons he had one and now we have cancelled the next 2 he says he is nervous.... HELP!!! :-(

@A MyAutismTeam Member I don't have any helpful advice, but my son is 17 and feeling the same way. I try to be patient, and remember that it will come in time, maybe when he is ready? Maybe with someone who he is very comfortable with, instead of his parents. Good luck, and let me know if you come up with a strategy !! :)

Try teaching him yourself. I've taught non-driving foreigners to drive in the U.S. and my ASD daughter will be a challenge if not impossible. Start out in an empty parking lot, then progress to low traffic streets and higher volume traffic later. Do it slowly to build confidence and learn the feel of the car. Tell the driver to listen to your advice or pull over to take a break.

My wife hated me for complaining about her driving when she first got to this country but she learned how to drive defensively. Watch out for the other idiots on the road because some people just have really bad judgement.
