Regression
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone experienced a regression in potty training and how did you correct it? My sons 8 and has been potty trained since he was 4. All of a sudden he is wetting the bed and wearing depends to bed. It's so frustrating and makes me so sad.

@A MyAutismTeam Member was there any extreme sudden changes in your life, or within the environment, new or different people in your child life, when he started wetting. I also suggest not to use depends, because this might encourage/ support the behavior of wetting on self then getting up to use the toilet.

When my son came to live with me full time, his mother used depends, I had to stop using the depends, put plastic covers over bed mattress, sofa cushions,

I basically had to re-train him, every hour I would for 15 to 30 minutes calmly encourage him to use the toilet, he still at times had accidents at times,

it taken me a year to totally re-train him, then I notice he was still wetting only the bed during the night or morning,

I was living with my nephew and the stress from my nephew and his girl friend arguing increase the environmental stress on my son,

after I was able to move out, all the bed wetting ended after the first night in our new place to live. no more wetting on self.

Yes @A MyAutismTeam Member My friends son just went through something where he was going pee in his pants during the day too. They took him to regular doc, didn't see anything wrong. After one week, took him to urologist. He looked right away and saw that opening in penis was too small, can be common in circumcised boys. They planned a small surgery to correct it. Good luck.
PS- my younger brother also struggled into adulthood with bedwetting. He had seen a few drs, none of the treatments helped too much. I read it can be common for ASD individuals.

My DD is still wearing overnight pull ups, but is potty trained during the day. My first thought for your situation is wondering if any big changes have happened in his life? I know that can sometimes cause potty training regression. I would check a urine sample to rule out a UTI too.

We had the exact same problem! He wore the depends for a while then we just limited liquids before 5 and put him in regular undies for bed. It worked! He still has an occasional accident but just due to liquid later in the day.

My son is 4 and learned very quickly potty training and skipped the pull ups stage , he didnt like the feeling of it, but each night and fir the past 2 years he has wet his bed, his does so well during the day but even before his medication he still wet the bed, getting him up and going wasnt making a difference. He head is right next to the bathroom door, and he has been getting rashes from it. So idk what to do,.
