Hi my Nephew Chance is currently attending Mayport Elementary. He is 7 years old and functioning at a 2 year old level. He needs exstensive help with behavior, development, & speech. Alot of the ABA therapist don't accept Medicaid. Wolfsons Beaches Rehab is where he will be going for speech & occupational therapy. I just found out about MyAutismTeam and wanted to see if maybe there are services we are overlooking. I can have him enrolled at Neptune Beach Elementary but, with so many challenges… read more

Have you had him evaluated through the school district for special education? He should have a diagnosis and the school district should be providing services. If they can't accommodate him they are required by law to transport him to the closest school district that can meet his needs.
Also you should ask Wolfsons if they have a Developmental Pediatrician he can see instead of just their Beaches clinic.
I use to live in Jax Beach but it was before my son was born. Wish I could be more help.
Good luck! Your nephew is lucky to have you!

Hi, are you referring to the school board? If so yes, they said they would try to assist us with before and after school care but, chance requires 24-hour supervision so, they stated they would have to hire a one on one aid to assist with him in the extended day program. They have been telling us for 3 months now that they haven't found anyone. Outside of the school board Medicaid is providing Speech and Occupational therapy for him twice a week for a total of an hour per week for each which is not enough. Chance just started getting help for ASD and Language Impairment within the last 6 months so, I feel like he needs intensive treatment to really have a shot at being a functioning individual with some independence.
