Members shared helpful guidance on navigating genetic and blood testing after an autism diagnosis, with most agreeing that starting with a referral to a genetics doctor is essential, though wait times can be long and persistence pays off. Several members described the process, including completing detailed questionnaires, undergoing physical evaluations, and receiving tests like Fragile X and Chromosome Microarray, with many noting that insurance coverage varies widely and some tests may be free through programs like SPARK for Autism. A recurring theme was the importance of patience, as results can take four to six weeks or longer, and understanding that initial tests often determine whether further testing of the child or family members is needed.
