Clonidine - Please Share Experiences
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am seeing more and more posts about our ASD kids on Clonidine, I know its a blood pressure med.
Please can you folk share your experiences of it and how it has changed behaviours in your childrens lives, whether thst was sleep, behaviour, attention span, self harmerous stimming, calming, concentration, aggitation and so forth

I am very interested in hearing more about this medication.

Thank you in advance.

Kathryn.

Clonidine! The miracle med that gets my daughter sleeping! She started taking this at about age 9 at bedtime. She still takes it at nearly 18. Prior to taking she hardly slept. Couldn't fall asleep. Then she would be up for hours in the middle of the night. Even as an infant and toddler she couldn't sleep. At least now she can get some rest! (Me too!)

My twins were on Clonidine for a few months for sleep issues and hyperactive issues. It didn't phase them at all for either. They are on Tenex now and it has helped.

My son has never been on Clonidine, but my ex-wife's daughter was on it temporarily. It did not help her at all. She stillncouldnt sleep, and her attention span was horrible.

@A MyAutismTeam Member my sons paediatrician said another sleep aid would be an antihystamine based one called Phenergan, he is ok on Melatonin though. Propanonol would take him down quite a few notches reducing anxiety and headaches too, it does tend to make me very drowsy I was on it for migraines.
I guess if I knew my son was producing too much hystamin (bodys producing it in response to fighting an irritant) Phenergan wd work but how do we know if any of these are the right fit.
Very hard and I guess I'd b out of pocket testing.
