We just left the autism screening for my son and he did really well! He didn't do any of the things that concern me and what brought us to the screening in the first place. He responded to his name, made eye contact, didn't have a meltdown, didn't line up toys, played pretend with a baby doll (he's never done that!), didn't spin in circles or fixate on wheels. Yes I am having a hard time figuring out what to do at home for him to get his interest. He does help me with everything I do at home with cleaning but he is scared of food it seems so he will not touch or even look at food.
Oh yes, my daughter took until 7 to get diagnosed, because she knows how to hide under the radar...very well. They kept blaming all of her symptoms on anxiety. They took it more seriously when the school did a month long evaluation for an iep and found significant signs of asd...then she got clinically diagnosed not too long afterward through a child psychologist. I would video your concerns on your phone, if they aren't taking you seriously. Hopefully it won't be necessary. Good luck.
