I enrolled my daughter in two small studies last year. The first one was comparing verbal prompting vs physical prompting (hand on hand) in learning new skills. The second study was eye tracking comparing response to robot vs human commands. Completely voluntary and you can withdraw anytime. My daughter didn’t have any problems participating. For both studies they did the ADOS test for screening eligibility. For the robot study they also did the Mullen scales for development screening. The research itself took just an hour. Screening tests took 3 hours. I enrolled because I firmly believe that effective treatments and interventions depend on these researches. We got a lot out of participating. For one, we found out how bad her fine motor skills still were inspite of an hour a week OT! We amped that up to 2 hours based on that. We also used the ADOS report in requesting the school to reconsider her ASD diagnosis (school psychologist deemed she didn’t fit criteria)

@A MyAutismTeam Member Yes my son has been participating in NIH studies at the MD location. He enjoys talking to the Dr.s and being challenged by their questions. He also wants to do MRI studies when his braces are removed. They are wonderful and give us a lot of very helpful information to use at home and school. They also pay a stipend to each of us, which is fun for a teen who can't cope with a job.
