I was told that the regional center is supposed to cover cost related to autism such as swimming lessons , sensory gym membership , driving lessons for high functioning . Is this true ?
My son is 4 years i live in los angeles county and i pay for summer camp and recreational activities
They just provide the extra support
I think it's probably determined by county.... in Santa Clara county, there was in-home therapy provided for out son free of charge until he turned 3 (and then we had to start paying out-of-pocket!) Now that he's older, he's eligible for 24 hours of respite care per month; or alternatively you can elect to use those funds to send your kid of special camps. That's what we do, which is great- he loves them! According to our coordinator, most of the services that "matter" happen once your kid turns 21 and leaves public school. Then they'll provide day programs or residential living situations, etc. But I'd suggest you find the regional center in your area, and ask them =)
