It’s worth mentioning- I reached out to all those groups when I first started and each conversation was filled with good info that really influenced the path we took. TACA helped me deal with school district, Foothill Autism had a recommendation for a speech provider who eventually led me to a fantastic speech therapist.

Are you with Lanterman? There’s a lot of stuff for adults. I met one person there who had housing, services, support. Independently living with supervision from them. He was in his 50s I think. I think he’s a board member, might be worth asking to talk with any adult board members who are on the spectrum because I think they have maximized services. You can call your case worker (or call and request a case worker), and then ask to be matched to a family or parent ambassador who is like your child. Then you can ask them what they have and get that run down. You can ask the case worker what is available but you may only get half the story from them. You can also go on the TACA website and sign up for a mentor who has a child your child’s age or older and has had experience dealing with your regional center. There’s also Foothill Autism group which specializes in adult children on the spectrum so if you can reach out to them, I bet they will have loads of good information for you on local support services and what the regional center can do.

@A MyAutismTeam Member thank you for recommending Autism Society. I was able to contact them, and they were able to connect me with a support group. She was also gave me links to other resources for my daughter, and she had mentioned that I should make sure that I point out my daughter's deficits rather than her strengths because they will deny services on those points. I was also told that if they ask about her IQ to not mention it to the person taking the call because they tend to try to disqualify based on IQ--I don't think that's fair. ☹️

@A MyAutismTeam Member thank you for the information about TACA and Foothill Autism. I will reach out to them as well. I think our regional center is the San Gabriel Regional center even though I think my profile says Los Angeles. I'm not sure I had entered that in correctly (?) when I first created my account on myaustismteam.com, so I'll have to go back and see if I can update that. Maybe looking into that the board members at our regional center could be another resource. I know they have scheduled a board meeting sometime this month.
