Help For Parents In The Orlando Area
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone know of a good therapist in the Orlando area who works with the parents of children on the spectrum. I have an adult son on the spectrum but need to find ways for myself to cope with some of behaviors- largely meltdowns.

HI Aute4Lyfe83,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with me. it was very kind of you. My son does live at home with us. He was in a college program in the medical field but it proved to be too competitive and stress producing for him to complete. He does have a degree in sound engineering. He has many wonderful traits and abilities but he struggles with mood regulation.
If anyone out there knows of a good therapist in the Orlando area who is well versed in ASD, please let us know.
Thanks

Does your son live at home? I just read your story, and it sounds like he's around my age based on what you wrote (I was born in '83). I was diagnosed at 31 and still live at home with my mom and our dog, Anna. I don't feel ready to live on my own yet, but that's mostly due to the fact I have three jobs and wouldn't have the TIME to handle all that comes with having a place of my own, lol! I basically work, come home, spend time with my mom or my friends when I have it...rinse, wash, and repeat :) What did your son study in college? I earned my bachelor's in Social Work in 2006. Many of my peers are married with families of their own as well, however it's not what I want in life, so while I can be happy for them from the outside looking in, I can't even fathom myself in their shoes. I've always felt and acted much younger than my age, and am happily sitting in my own "corner" playing video games, surrounded by plushies, lol! 🤣 I seriously do NOT know how I'll be 39 years old in two months... it's just not possible! :P To answer your question, I'm not familiar with services in Florida, but we have a good deal of them in Buffalo. I see you're a fellow New Yorker! Hope you have an amazing day! 😊
